Word Study test will be on Fridays. Please sign your child’s agenda every night, so that you know what is going on for that week.
Starting this month, the children will be completing their first set of monthly book reports. The book report forms will be sent home at the beginning of every month. Let’s all work together to improve your child’s literacy.
The children are also very eager to start their Process Writing books. We will become professional, published authors in grade 3D! They are also enjoying our “Take Home Writing Program”. Cute, creative stories are being written about our popular Stuffies: Red, Gus, Willow, Fiona and Bright.

For Math, I will continue to send home the math newsletters stating the mathematical concepts we will be focusing on. Play the fun, educational games with your child. If I do not assign any homework, here are some possible suggestions:
- read a book
- practice any math games for the unit we are covering
- write a journal / letter to a friend, relative, or me.
- practice the weekly study words (put them in ABC order, break them into syllables, put them in sentences, look in the dictionary for their meaning, type them on a computer, etc.)
- help your child read the newspaper and talk about current events and weather
- play cards (e.g. Find one thousand two hundred and sixty four – Ace 2 6 4
This month, we will also be starting a Grandpal program with Heron Terrace on Banwell and McNorton. What a wonderful opportunity for the children to write letters to the elderly, receive letters and meet them when we travel to their facility monthly. My class last year loved this program and they could not wait to write to them (and see them) throughout the school year. Please sign the permission form and return it. Thank you . Parent volunteers are always welcome and encouraged. Just write a note in your child’s agenda.
Thank you for your support. It has been a wonderful first month at Tecumseh Vista Academy.
Remember – no school Monday, October 8th.

Dear Parents / Guardians:
Hello! My name is Mrs. De Santis. I am your child’s grade 3 teacher. I am very eager to start the 2018/2019 school year at TECUMSEH VISTA ACADEMY. This is the only hard copy of our newsletter. The rest will be posted on Edsby, or visit our website: www.desantisvista.weebly.com.
I am very excited to teach your child in our grade 3classroom. I am easily located in room 1166. Please feel free to talk to me at any time. Our school phone number is 519-739-2189. My extension is 45507. You can message me through Edsby Or fill out the Contact Form on our class website.
At TVA, we continue to be on a ten day cycle. Our gym classes will be every Day 2, 5 and Day 9. Please make sure your child comes prepared and dressed appropriately on these days (shorts, track pants, running shoes, etc.)
Library will be every Day 1 and 8. Please remind your child to return their library book on time. If they would like to sign out their book for another week, not a problem. Also, if they would like to exchange earlier, that is ok too. Thank you.
These are the recommended school supplies for the year: pencil case, pencils, erasers, glue sticks, coloured pencils, coloured markers and high lighters. Thank you. If you have extra Kleenex boxes, that would be great as well. We always seem to go through a lot of tissue.
In Social Studies this month, the grade 3’s will be focusing on Living and Working in Ontario. In Math, Patterning, and Number Sense will be the focus. I will post the Math newsletters on Edsby. Please consider doing the interesting activites and educational games listed.
In Literacy, your child will become a professional, published author in our Grade 3 Writing Program. A book report will also be done at home on a monthly basis. We start that in October. I will send home information at a later date.
All agendas are free. But all field trips will be done on: cash online. Please see our Tecumseh Vista website. Please check and initial your child’s agenda nightly. The students will be writing their Spelling words in them and what is happening daily.
There may be some forms sent home from the office this week. Please fill them out and return them as soon as possible.
We’re going to have a wonderful year! Please follow us on Twitter!!!
@karensantis4 I always post pictures of the fun things we are doing in our class .
